PhD Božo Skoko

Božo Skoko is an professor at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Zagreb, where he is head of the Public Relations study program, as well as teaches courses on corporate communications. His scientific interests are: public relations and communications, international relations, national identity and image, as well as media. He is the co-founder of Millenium promocija, one of the leading Croatian public relations agencies. He is a long-time strategic communications consultant. He is a former journalist and editor with Croatian Television. He is the author of five books and over forty scientific papers on public relations, the media and managing the identity and image of Croatia. He is a columnist with the daily newspaper Večernji list.

The Faculty of Political Science was founded in 1962 as a part of the University of Zagreb, and it is the oldest academic institution from the field of political science in this part of Europe and offers the only political science study program in HR

Undergraduate study programs
At the faculty, there are two undergraduate university study programs: Political science study program, lasting 4 years and Journalism study program, lasting 3 years. Upon completion of the study program, achieved is the title of Baccalaureus in political science, that is, Baccalaureus in journalism. As part of the journalism study program, in addition to print, radio, television and new media, there is also Public Relations.


Graduate study programs
The graduate study programs are also from the field of political science and journalism, after which the title of master's is obtained. The duration of the political science graduate study program is 1 year, while the graduate study program in journalism lasts 2 academic years. Apart from passing all of the exams, a minimum condition for enrolling into the graduate study program is that the student has a 3.0 average or higher during his/her undergraduate studies. As part of the graduate study program in journalism, students can specialize in public relations and political communication.


Postgraduate study program
The Faculty of Political Science has a doctoral study program in Comparative Politics lasting 3 years and the following specialist one-year study programs: Public Relations, Regional Comparative Studies in Central and South East Europe, Security Policy of the Republic of Croatia and Foreign Policy of the European Union.


Academic Library and Free Internet
The Faculty possesses an academic library from the field of political science and communication science with over 50,000 books, as well as an excellent collection of academic and specialized, domestic and foreign, magazines. In addition to the fundamental library, the Faculty also houses a specialized library in journalism with a collection of global daily newspapers stored on CDs. Students and academic staff can also make use of the well-equipped computer room , where they have access to free Internet.


Publishing activities
The scientific magazine Politička misao is published four times a year with a special issue in English (Croatian Political Science Review). The magazine has been regularly published for 48 years already and represents the best academic and specialized magazine from the field of political science and related disciplines in Croatia. The scientific magazine Medijske studije was initiated in 2010 and publishes scientific articles, studies and analyses from the area of communications, media, public relations and related disciplines. The Croatian Communication Association is a co-author of the magazine.


Scientific and research activities
In addition to the magazine, the Faculty also issues a series of books under the name "Biblioteka politička misao". Published in this prominent series are classic works of political science, as well as books by contemporary foreign and Croatian political science experts. Also part of the series is recent works from the fields of communication, media and so on. Academic and research activities at the Faculty take place through several research teams, whose projects and programs can be found at http://zprojekti.mzos.hr.


Specialist seminars
Taking place at the faculty are numerous seminars, and organized are academic gatherings, conferences and public forums. Numerous public notables from Croatia and the world are guests and frequent lecturers in various courses and gatherings.


International cooperation
The Faculty has developed cooperation at numerous levels as part of the International Political Science Association, Croatian Political Science Association and regional cooperation through the central European political science association, as well as within the CEEPUS, Fulbright, Irex, Humbolt and other programs. The Faculty of Political Science is also a member of the European Consortium for Political Research.
